Day 2 | 40 Days Through Mark

Day 2 | March 3 | Mark 1:21-39

By: Jayna Sparrow

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark‬ 1:35‬

From the scripture passage today, we can see this wasn’t a normal Sabbath. Jesus amazed people by his teaching in the synagogue, then drove a demon out of a man who was in the synagogue.

How crazy is that?!

Word spread so fast, that by sunset the WHOLE TOWN gathered at the door of the place Jesus was staying. Mark tells us that Jesus healed many people that night. It must have been a night filled with tears of joy, awe and gratitude. Can you imagine the excitement in this town? Can you imagine yourself in the crowd?

After everyone left, you can imagine the exhaustion Jesus felt. And yet, we read, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” (Mark 1:35) We read many times in the gospels about Jesus getting away by himself to pray. Jesus knew he needed to remain connected to his Father in order to accomplish His will.

Jesus conquered sin and death for us, and bridged the gap between us and God. It is a gift that we can have a close and personal relationship with him. God wants us to bring him our anxiety, doubts, fears, pain, grief - whatever is concerning or draining us. 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you.” But, it’s also important to seek God for who he is, and not just what he can give us. Jeremiah 29: 12-13 says “When you call on me and come and pray to me, I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Jesus continues his work today, and he does it through you and me. But, like Jesus, we have to stay connected to the Father. Are you connected to Him? Today, find a solitary place and get connected with your Heavenly Father.
