Day 30 | April 5
Day 30 | April 5 | Mark 13:1-20
By: Lyle Gibbens
This is a passage of scripture where Jesus describes some of the events of the end times. It’s not a pretty picture. Not unlike us, those closest to Jesus were asking for inside information regarding what the future looked like.
Jesus was asking that his closest friends not be misled by those who would pretend to be just like him. He also suggested that standing up for him would cost them much pain and suffering.
As He spoke, Jesus revealed that there would be wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes, and famines… Those who are believers will endure hardship in many ways. There won’t be time for anyone to “get ready” for difficult times.
The point of this segment of Mark 13 is to BE READY. Is your relationship with the Father one where you have instant and familiar communicatio? There won’t be time for apologies and forgiveness when God says His prophecies will be fulfilled. Nothing like this has occurred since the beginning of time.
Is walking with Jesus these days in the United States a difficult thing to do? We are not subject to persecution or ridicule for being Jesus followers. In our current environment, it is not difficult to be a Christian. However, if we lived in a different part of the world where the predominant faith is not Christianity, one might feel quite differently about openly professing Christ.
Mark is warning us to be on guard and be aware that it may not always be this easy.
In summary, verse 37 at the end of chapter 13 states it even more directly- “Be on the alert!”
