When Eric and Teresa picked up a World Vision packet with Angelica’s name on it over 20 years ago, they had no idea the impact it would have. Angelica grew up in Cucho, Peru, a place of conflict and terrorism. At 16 she aged out of the World Vision program, and Eric and Teresa assumed they would never hear from her again. Meanwhile, Angelica moved from Cucho to Lima with her children, but when her father fell ill, she returned to Cucho and found the box she had kept with 8 years’ worth of letters from Eric and Teresa. When her father passed away, Angelica felt that she needed to make a change for her family and courageously chose to immigrate to America with her children and her husband, Clever.
Angelica found a woman on Facebook whom she believed to be Teresa and contacted her. When Teresa saw the message, she was a bit skeptical at first, until Angelica started sending pictures of the letters she had kept. They kept in touch while the family immigrated. Although Eric and Teresa did not speak any Spanish and had never met Angelica or Clever, they felt the Lord leading them to open their home and invited Angelica and her entire family to live with them.
God led Eric and Teresa to College Church right before Angelica and Clever moved in, and their previous church did not have a Hispanic ministry. Clever had been very skeptical about moving to Kansas, but was so impressed by the warmth of the people and Pastor Marcos on their first Sunday at College Church that they decided to make College Church their church home. Last year, Angelica and Clever professed Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and were baptized by Pastor Marcos. We are so thankful to have them in our church family, and for the way the Lord was writing College Church into their story over 20 years ago!
